Our Silent Stories

Improvised dance performance by Gabriel Galvez-Prado and Suna Imre

Suna and I performed Our Silent Stories at an interdisciplinary contemporary arts platform in Winchester.

Improvisation requires us as dancers to step outside of our comfort zones. It helps us discover who we are as performers, we problem solve during the performance and think on the spot. When we aren't focused on learnt steps, our minds are open to all the possibilities that dance has to offer. A work of art begins to evolve from a series of decisions made between us, and it conveys a feeling or idea to those witnessing the dance.

Together Suna and I danced with the intention of creating a work that resided in the present moment; through contact improvisation, we were able to bring forth a physical and emotional response to a shared moment. This moment cannot be re-captured, it’s ephemeral and can leave dancers vulnerable and exposed, not knowing what comes next – but within this fragility, a truth can be revealed.
